For this post, I will focus on bovine colostrum as it&#8217;s much more common.<\/p><p>Bovine colostrum is pasteurized and then dried into pills or powders.\u00a0<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); letter-spacing: 0.2px; text-align: var(--text-align); font-size: 1rem;\">It\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); letter-spacing: 0.2px; text-align: var(--text-align); font-size: 1rem;\">is similar to human colostrum in terms of what it provides, however, there are differences in the compositions and proportions.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e192a9b elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" colostrum in adult humans.<\/p><div><div style=\"line-height: 1.4; direction: ltr; margin-left: 0px;\"><p><span style=\"color: #212529; letter-spacing: 0em;\">Newborns can absorb growth factors from colostrum more effectively due to their underdeveloped intestinal tract. However, adults have fully developed intestinal tracts that break down these beneficial compounds before they can be absorbed into the bloodstream.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #212529; letter-spacing: 0em;\">Here is the research we have available now:<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #212529; letter-spacing: 0em;\">1. There may be a <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/20601740\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">minor reduction in upper respiratory tract infections<\/a> with colostrum supplementation, more research is needed.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #212529; letter-spacing: 0em;\">2. A study done on 18 volunteers showed bovine colostrum may possess some potential to <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/11549415\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">increase vaccine efficacy<\/a>.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #212529; letter-spacing: 0em;\">3. Colostrum, due to being a dietary protein, appears to <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/11312068\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">promote building lean body mass<\/a>. This is comparable to supplementing a similar dose of whey protein.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #212529; letter-spacing: 0em;\">4. There is solid evidence to show that colostrum supplementation helps to reduce traveller&#8217;s diarrhea when using colostrum from a cow immunized to E. coli as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/16716966\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diarrhea associated with HIV\/AIDS<\/a>.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #212529; letter-spacing: 0em;\">5. One study of 16 participants with type 2 diabetes who supplemented bovine colostrum showed a <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/18602824\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">small improvement in cholesterol, triglycerides and blood glucose<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #212529; letter-spacing: 0em;\">6. One study on 14 people with <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/12390100\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">distal colitis showed suppression of symptoms and inflammation<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #212529; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: var(--text-align); font-size: 1rem;\">using a colostrum solution as an enema,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #212529; letter-spacing: 0em; text-align: var(--text-align); font-size: 1rem;\">compared to a placebo.\u00a0 No studies are currently available on oral supplementation of colostrum for IBD.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #212529; letter-spacing: 0em;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #212529; letter-spacing: 0em;\">The biggest takeaway here is that the research is severely lacking.
