The sweetness of the strawberries mixed with the creamy cheesecake flavour makes this recipe so delicious and great for the whole family! This smoothie is packed with protein from both cottage cheese and Greek yogurt, so it will keep you feeling satisfied. It’s also a great source of calcium, potassium, selenium and vitamin C. The strawberries are also rich in antioxidants to provide a range of benefits to your health.
Strawberry smoothies don’t have to be limited to summertime – this recipe uses frozen strawberries which are available year-round.
Frozen vs. Fresh Fruit
Let’s start by getting this out of the way: there is absolutely nothing wrong with frozen fruit (and vegetables too)! They are wonderful choices that stay stable in your home a lot longer than fresh fruits and vegetables and help to prevent food waste. Frozen fruits and vegetables are often fresher than “fresh” fruits and vegetables depending on where you live and how long your produce is travelling to get to your local grocery store and then to your plate. Frozen varieties can often be more affordable than fresh also. So don’t let diet culture fool you into thinking frozen isn’t good enough!
Now let’s get to this smoothie.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
- 1/4 cup cottage cheese
- 1 cup frozen strawberries (if you only have fresh strawberries, pour this smoothie over ice or blend in ice cubes)
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 Tbsp honey
- optional: sliced fresh strawberries and graham crumbs for the topping
Other fun add-ins:
frozen banana
hemp hearts
ground flaxseed
raspberries or blueberries
chia seeds
cherries
Directions:
1. Mix all the ingredients in your blender. If the mixture is too thick, add more milk to reach your desired consistency.
2. Enjoy!
Both me and my kids are big fans of this one. I would love to hear what you and your family think if you make this!
